GoLocalProv | News | Economic Tsunami - Coronavirus is Killing Rhode Island’s Top Restaurants - The List Is Growing

I am posting this story from September once again to emphasize what is happening in our state. We already rank dead last for business and our Governor aims to keep it that way. How low can we go? Meanwhile the RI General Assembly is sitting back and letting it happen because Democrats have been given their marching orders to not return to work! Almost every voter I talk to is outraged by this. Meanwhile, RI Republicans have made several media appearances, issued press releases, held press conferences, etc. to get back to work. The Governor sits on COVID relief money and is now talking about another shut down. If you don't approve of what is going on, vote Republican. We need to get more voices in our legislature against what they are doing. They have already pushed off the state budget until AFTER the election. Not too obvious is it? It should have been done in June! ... See more

It is a growing economic tsunami. Restaurants in Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts are closing by the day.  In the past week alone some of the best-known restaurants in the area have announced their closure or that they are for sale. The announcement of restaurants closing started in right... ... See more

LIVE PRESS CONFERENCE: Raimondo to announce more restrictions on Friday; says RI hospitals could hit capacity in a month

The governor also said that she would announce further restrictions on Friday at 1 p.m. She said she is still deciding what those restrictions will be, and is not yet ready to move the state back to "phase two," although that could happen within a week or two, however, she said.

Our Governor continues to go unchallenged while our legislators do nothing, having taken their marching orders from leadership.

GoLocalProv | News | Restore Checks and Balances During State of Emergencies, Says RI House GOP in Proposed Legislation

Rhode Island House Republicans announced Tuesday they will submit legislation to "ensure proper checks and balances on the Governor’s powers during a declared State of Emergency."

"Rhode Island has been without a legislative branch of state government for the past eight months," said the GOP in a joint statement. "Rather than elected lawmakers passing laws, we are governed by a succession of executive orders issued by Governor Raimondo. Many of these executive orders are legislative in nature because they deeply affect our personal lives, including; our freedom to associate in our own homes, to practice our religion, to bury our departed loved ones, and to make a living."

Thank you Blake! We are long overdue for the general assembly to get back to work.

RI State Police investigating online threats made against Providence officers

“We take this very seriously and it is very concerning when anyone is harassed or threatened,” Manni said. “It is especially concerning when a police officer is threatened online.”

“If it is determined this is a credible threat, anyone who made it will be held accountable,” he added.

Providence Public Safety Commissioner Steven Paré said the state police are involved because the officers who were named in the posts live outside of the city. Paré said the state police Fusion Center – which shares “threat-related information” across federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies – is involved in the probe.

This is way over the line.

One of the posts included the name of the officer involved in the recent moped crash that’s sparked multiple protests.

Students should not have to suffer by going to a failing school system.   School choice means it allows public education funds from their residing town or city to follow students to the schools or services that best fit their needs—whether that’s to a public school, private school, charter school, home school or any other learning environment parents choose for their kids

One of my main focuses are small businesses.   As a small business owner, I see the struggles that small businesses face with burdensome regulations and red tape. RI is ranked dead last for business according to CNBC.

I would also like to push for budget transparency.  I feel the issue with spending is whether lawmakers are following the rules designed to promote openness and ensure the public understands where all the money is going.

The Governor can take out specific items he or she opposes and send the modified bill or budget back to the general assembly

Wasteful government spending has been an issue for years in Rhode Island.  We need to step back on this wasteful spending to offset the states budget shortfalls. Â
